Your day will begin at 9:00am when your driver and expert guide meet you at your cruise ship and whisk you off to Pompeii. The first half of your tour will be spent exploring this ancient city that offers a unique insight into Roman life. Buried under layers of volcanic ash and pumice after the two-day eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, the city was frozen in its contemporary state and only first discovered in the 16th century. Your expert guide will use the site to introduce you to the structure of Roman society, delving into topics such as commerce, gender roles, and religion. The preserved remains of Pompeii’s inhabitants trying in vain to escape from the eruption highlight the human aspect of this disaster and make this visit a particularly moving one.

Next, you’ll make your way to Naples by car, for a quick lunch break (at your own expense) and a short walk in the city. The focus of your afternoon will be the Archaeological Museum, where your guide will develop some of the themes discussed at Pompeii with examinations of the artifacts housed in the museum.

After 7.5 hours together, your time with your expert will come to an end. Your driver will transport you back to your cruise ship port, getting you there for 5:00pm. You’ll depart Naples with a deeper understanding of life in Roman Pompeii and the tragedy that befell its population and wiped out the city.

What time will we be picked up from the port?
Your driver and guide will pick you up from the Port of Naples at 9am and drive you to Pompeii.

Where will we meet the guide?
Your guide will meet you at the port along with the driver.

How long will we have the car service for?
We will book the car service for 8 hours - this includes 30-minute transfers each way from the port and back.

How long will we have with the guide?
You will spend 7.5 hours with the guide. The guide will meet you at the port with the driver and then leave you after your visit to the Archaeological Museum, when the driver will transport you back to the port.

Can we change the itinerary or timing of this tour?
No, this tour is not customizable - it is not possible to swap the venues mentioned for other sites. The start and end times cannot be changed.

Is this tour suitable for people with mobility issues?
Yes, Pompeii and the Naples Archaeological Museum are both wheelchair accessible. However, Pompeii is a little walking intensive and there are uneven cobbled lanes, clients who use a cane or who have difficulty walking may find this part difficult. If you have any mobility issues we recommend contacting us so we can ensure the tour is adapted to your concerns. You will also have a private car service at your disposal for getting between the sites during the tour.
