Tour Description
Explore Copenhagen on our 3-hour introductory city and canal tour with a local expert. We’ll talk about the Danish royal family and the history of the monarchy, Danish culture, and society—including its contemporary culture and traditions—and Copenhagen’s evolution from a fishing village to the capital of the Danish Empire. Our route will take us through the city center as we soak up various sites important to the city’s colorful past. These sites may include the exterior of palaces and castles (Christiansborg Palace, Amalienborg or Rosenborg Castle), the Round Tower, and Nyhavn Harbour. This is a fitting tour for first-time visitors who want to delve deep into the history of Copenhagen and get their bearings in this lovely city.

Introduction to Copenhagen City Tour

We’ll meet together near Rosenborg Castle, where we will begin our tour with an introduction to the history of the Danish royal family. We’ll explore the exterior of this castle briefly before taking some time to walk through the King’s Gardens. In this picturesque area, we’ll discuss the strategic and symbolic importance of this historic district and the role of the monarchy. Expanding our geographical scope, we will venture across the city to other notable sites, such as the Round Tower (the oldest functioning observatory in Europe), before heading to Slotsholmen—a small but very powerful island in the center of the city. Home to Christiansborg Palace which also houses the Danish Parliament, this area is a great starting point to get a sense of Danish history as well as the country’s politics and culture today. We’ll talk about the architecture as we soak up the impressive stables and royal buildings surrounding us. Our route may take us to other lesser-known locations in the city, according to the interests of your group and our experts. We may end our route together at Nyhavn, the 17th-century harbor that is considered one of the main reasons Copenhagen has evolved into a significant European city.

We will finish our Copenhagen city and canal tour with a greater understanding of the stylish Danish capital. We’ll have crossed the city, immersing ourselves in royal history, Danish architecture, and local customs and traditions with our expert guide. We’ll leave one another with a more contextualized approach to Copenhagen.

FAQ

What is a private tour?
Our private tours are limited exclusively to travelers in your party. They are designed to provide a learning experience that is completely tailored to you and your traveling companions. Private tours give you more flexibility with scheduling (you decide when the walk best fits in your trip), and more personalized time with your guide.

Where do we meet? Where does it end?
We meet near Rosenborg Castle and we may end near Nyhavn harbor. Your route may differ according to your guide. Your confirmation email will have the exact meeting point details.

Do we visit the interior of the castle or palace?
As we only have 3 hours together, we tend to discuss these venues from outside. Our guide can advise on visiting independently after the tour.

What if it’s raining?
Tours operate rain or shine. The majority of this walk is outside, so please be prepared with either an umbrella or a hat/sunscreen.

Is this tour walking intensive and/or wheelchair accessible?
We do cover quite a bit of ground on this tour and therefore we recommend contacting us with any mobility questions; we will be happy to advise if this tour will be appropriate for you or propose modifications where necessary. Please feel free to contact us.

Louis was a terrific guide. We enjoyed the historical introduction to the city from their visual arts viewpoint.
Louis was very well informed, but we didn't feel like we were getting a canned lecture. She was very engaging, answered our questions, recommended restaurants, other places to see. She walked at a reasonable pace. She clearly knows and loves Copenhagen
Maj was so warm and adapted our tour to cater to our interests. It was the perfect introduction to the city on our first day! Highly recommend!
