Lecture Description
During this lecture, you will discover the top 10 highlights of a city with an amazingly rich historical, cultural, and artistic heritage. Starting from the Roman period, we will examine various monuments and follow historical, social, and cultural development. Austria was ruled by the longest-lasting dynasty in Europe, the Habsburgs. With their efficient marriage politics, they managed to expand their territory and got the largest empire on European soil.
Meet Your Expert
Gilles

Swiss artist Gilles Gubelmann studied piano and dance at the Geneva Conservatory. He then worked for many years as an expert for arts and antiques in an important Swiss Auction House (Koller Auctions) where he was director of the Department of Antique Furniture and Decorative Arts. He realised a dream and moved to Venice where he started working as a painter and as an opera set and costume designer all over Europe, and also deepening his knowledge of art history and architecture. Settled now in Vienna, Gilles continues his artistic activities, works as a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts and highly enjoys uncovering the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Vienna to curious travellers.

Their love for Music also shaped Vienna which is often called the capital of music. The splendid historical centre is rich in baroque architecture which makes it absolutely unique. Another period that has marked Vienna is the Art Nouveau, the so-called "Vienna Secession“ with its remarkable architects like Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffman, and world-famous artists like Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele.

Led by an expert in history and architecture, this lecture will inspire future travel to Vienna and prepare travelers to appreciate the city in context.

The Highlights lesson was probably my least favorite but the other lessons (also by the same instructor) did complement it
Very good overview.
Very informative introductory video tour. The presenter, Gilles Guberman was quite clear and and provided a very interesting overview tour of Vienna. I would recommend this video guide
