Gabrielle (Gabi) Tillenburg (she/her) is a PhD student studying modern and contemporary Caribbean and diasporic art at the University of Maryland. In previous roles, she has worked on curatorial teams at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, where she now serves as a Curatorial Assistant of Latino Art. Her curatorial projects have included Sound of Fire (VisArts), RINGGOLD | SAAR: Meeting on the Matrix (co-curator, David C. Driskell Center), Re∙cast: 22 Sculptural works from the Art Museum of Americas Collection (co-curator, UMD Gallery), among others. She holds an MA in Art History and Archaeology from UMD and a BFA in Film from the University of Central Florida. Her travels have taken her to Puerto Rico, Spain, Germany, England, and Scotland. While traveling she most enjoys taking in local architecture, history, and food. A longtime Washingtonian, she considers herself blessed to be immersed in a lively local arts culture and can recommend where to get the best cocktails in town.
