Your French Riviera introduction will commence with a convenient pick-up at your accommodation in Nice. As you make your way out of town and start your ascent towards your first stop, it won’t be long before you catch your first glimpse of the sea views which attract so many visitors and new inhabitants to the region each year.
Your expert guide will commence your introduction to the history of the region on your way to Èze, a small village perched on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean. Èze has long been a coveted territory, often changing hands during its centuries of existence due to its unique positioning at 1400 feet above sea level. Its lofty situation provides breathtaking panoramic views, while its stone streets and buildings could charm even the most experienced traveler.
Continuing from Èze, you will have the privilege of leaving France for a moment and entering the second-smallest sovereign state in the world, the Principality of Monaco. The fascinating history of this city-state can be traced back to the 6th century, and its situation on the Mediterranean only a few miles from Italy, has made it the subject of many disputes over the years.
Today, Monaco is most renowned for its glamour: luxury yachts float in its expansive port and high fashion boutiques line its pristine squares. However, traces of its long intriguing history are everywhere. We will first stop in front of the Prince’s Palace, home to Monaco’s ruling monarch, and learn about the many sieges and disputes to arrive at its doors. Continuing onwards, we will admire the exterior of the famed Monte Carlo casino. Originally a business venture initiated by Princess Caroline to save the royal family from bankruptcy, the casino is now a well-recognized symbol in popular culture. Finally, we will venture to the Monaco Cathedral to discover the resting place of much of Monaco’s royalty, including Princess Grace.
After this last stop, it will be time for your expert guide and driver to accompany you back to Nice. You will part ways with a taste of the glamour and beauty of the Mediterranean coast and a greater appreciation of its fascinating history.
