Lecture Description
Did you know that Pablo Picasso is the only painter in the Guinness Book of Records with more than 135,000 artworks? Though people may associate Picasso with Paris, the world's most prolific artist was brought up in Barcelona. It said that without Barcelona, there would not be a Picasso. It was here, in this city blessed by the Mediterranean light and sea, where he decided to leave behind his boring academic life and join the bohemian taverns -like the 4 Cats Café- to become an artist, thus eliminating the name of his father Ruiz from his signature and becoming Pablo Picasso.
Meet Your Expert
Tate

Tate is an Official Catalan Tourist Guide, researcher and writer, formerly a university professor, who today combines her academic life (congresses, and publications) with touring in Barcelona and Catalunya for visitors interested in cultural heritage. She is currently working on the update of the official guide of the Art Nouveau architecture for the City Council of Barcelona and on another book on "The 50 wonders of Gaudí". Holder of a PhD in Journalism and Communication, as well as a degree in Translation, she has written numerous books and guidebooks on the architecture of the XXth century, specially Gaudí and the Catalan Art Nouveau. Walking along with Tate is both fun and deep, and will give you an unforgettable experience.

In this lecture, we will follow the footsteps of Pablo Picasso through Barcelona. We will arrive in Barcelona by the sea, see the pension, the art school, the two family flats and 5 studios of the young artist in the city. We will travel to Horta and Gòsol by train, places where he would make decisions that would change the history of art worldwide. We will end our talk in the Picasso Museum, the first one to be opened in the world and to be curated by Picasso himself.
