Samuel, was on time, knowledgeable and fun to be with. He had many interesting facts on Montmartre as well as filling us in on French history from the Parisiens’ perspective rather than that of the politicians. We walked all over and our three hour tour seemed like one hour. We thoroughly recommend Samuel.
Samuel did an excellent job covering in detail the history of the Nazi occupation of France and the end of WW2 in France. Our walk about town was great but it was Samuel's verbal sharing of his deep understanding of this history and events across many decades of both France and Europe that truly brought the subject to life. In his discourses, Samuel's excellent integration of the incredibly complex forces at work during the war gave us an appreciation of France's wartime experience, especially in Paris, that dramatically exceeded our prior knowledge. Samuel is a dedicated student of history who takes great responsibility for sorting through the many conflicting accounts of what transpired to arrive at a narrative that is as accurate and balanced as possible. A deep knowledge of French culture, especially the music and literature of the 20th century, greatly complemented his historical narrative. Samuel's organization made it possible to absorb a huge amount of information without feeling seriously overwhelmed. The visuals he provided were interesting and helpful, as were his follow-up notes shared via email. In sum: our time together was most valuable and thought-provoking. It also left us feeling like we'd encountered a truly rare individual. It is a privilege to meet someone with such enthusiasm for their work, plus the professional competence and drive, to make material contributions to our collective understanding of crucial events that continue to shape our world. Three cheers.
Samuel was phenomenal and we learned so much from him.. This was an amazing experience and I highly recommend a tour with Samuel. Thank you for such a great start to our Paris vacation!!!!
