Isabela, a native of São Paulo, Brazil arrived in Singapore in 2005. She picked this as her favorite place to settle after living and working for many years in different corners of the world. However, majoring as a Food Engineer, although it involved enjoyable customer contact and new global challenges left her insufficient time to truly learn and appreciate what her new home base had to offer! But being involved with food on a professional level allowed her to further study local taste preferences, explore raw materials and cooking techniques. This close contact with the food scene allowed her to understand the multi-facetted and diverse culinary preferences encountered in Singapore. An idea for a new career was born when she realized that friends visiting from Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries were blown away by the ingenious, simple and effective solutions that Singapore comes up with to remain relevant and competitive as a small but hugely successful nation on the world stage – which involves constantly upgrading and reinventing itself. Married to a German and mother of a Singapore-born teenager, Isbela is truly passionate about cultural diversity, whether expressed via food, festivals or the daily curiosities which often escape most visitors’ attention and which she looks forward to helping them discover.
