Context Travel Buenos Aires Tours

Buenos Aires, founded in 1536 by Pedro de Mendoza, has a history that is as layered as its cultural identity. Initially a modest outpost, it evolved dramatically with the influx of European immigrants in the 19th century, particularly from Spain and Italy, shaping the city into a unique blend of traditions, languages, and artistic expressions. This period of intense migration not only expanded Buenos Aires but also contributed to its distinctive Lunfardo dialect and the birth of tango, a dance and music form that became emblematic of the city's soul.

To truly appreciate this multifaceted city, curious travelers will enjoy our Introduction to Buenos Aires Tour for an essential overview. This Buenos Aires walking tour explores the historical significance of these areas, from the foundational moments at Plaza de Mayo to the cultural melting pot that is San Telmo, where the echoes of tango and the scent of traditional Argentine cuisine permeate the streets. For a more comprehensive exploration of the city, try our Buenos Aires in a Day Tour.

For food lovers, our Buenos Aires Food Tour with San Telmo Market introduces you to the culinary heritage influenced by its diverse population. From the hearty asado to the delicate empanadas, this Buenos Aires private tour not only satisfies culinary curiosity but also ties back to the cultural amalgamation that defines Buenos Aires.

For those interested in the architectural narrative of the city, our Buenos Aires Architecture Tour focuses on the Belle Epoque era. This period saw the construction of opulent buildings that reflected the city's economic boom and its aspiration to emulate European grandeur. Walking through these architectural marvels, one can witness how Buenos Aires was envisioned as a cultural beacon in the New World.

And for those drawn to the heartbeat of Buenos Aires' cultural life, Context's Buenos Aires Tango Tour delves into the world of tango. This tour starts in La Boca, the birthplace of tango, where the colorful caminitos and old warehouses resonate with the music and dance that once filled the air. It goes beyond mere performance to explore tango's evolution from the fringes of society to a global phenomenon, reflecting Buenos Aires' social history.

Juan was wonderful and customized the tour based on our interests. Would highly recommend!
Juan was great. He always had time to answer all of our questions. We learned a lot about Buenos Aires, it’s a beautiful city.
What a wonderful afternoon for our first time and first day in Buenos Aires! We had flown in overnight from Wash DC and by 3 pm were exhausted, but never a nodding head could one see when walking with Santiago. He was so engaging! We started out with the river and ended up with the wonderful market in San Telmo. And in between heard so much about the origin, development and character of BA and Argentina. Not just a textbook-type tour, Santiago infused all his descriptions with stories of events and people, just enough so that we felt like we had walked though and open door and discovered something of the nature of this city and country which were new to us.
