Itinerary Detail

Our tour begins at your accommodation, where you'll be met by our historian and driver. We'll leave Dubrovnik bright and early to avoid possible border traffic. We'll start by driving south through local Dalmatian villages before crossing the Croatian / Montenegrin border. Our first stop in Montenegro is the Bay of Kotor, which is, along with the surrounding area, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We spend some time exploring the historic seaside town of Kotor; a walled village renowned for its villas, stoned crisscrossing streets, and imposing fortress. From here, our historian will discuss the importance of Kotor from its Venetian history until Montenegrin independence after the dissolution of Yugoslavia. After our time in Kotor, we'll stop for lunch at an authentic local restaurant, offering the chance to try some Montenegrin cuisine.

After lunch, we’ll drive around the bay to visit the idyllic seaside village of Perast. From Perast, we will take a local boat to tour the Our Lady of the Rocks monastery. The tiny inlet hosts the ancient monastery, offering a sweeping panorama of the Kotor Bay and its fjords in all their magnificence. At the end of our time, as we drive back to Dubrovnik, not only we will have traveled to a different country but will have also come to appreciate Montenegro’s unique history in the Balkan region.

FAQ

Where do we meet? Where does it end?
We meet at your accommodation or at a fixed meeting point if accommodation pick-up is not possible. Your route may differ according to your guide. We start the tour early to allow for time to cross the Croatia-Montenegro border. Your confirmation email will have the exact meeting point details along with a map.

Do I need a visa?
No, but please bring your passport for the border crossing.

What if it’s raining?
Tours operate rain or shine, but in the case of inclement weather, your expert will modify the tour so more time is spent indoors. It never hurts to be prepared; we encourage keeping an eye on the weather and bringing along an umbrella, sunscreen, water, or a hat as needed.

Can children join this tour?
Yes, we can adjust the time and the content to be more appropriate for younger learners.

Is this tour walking intensive, and/or wheelchair accessible?
We do cover quite a bit of ground on this tour as well as get into a boat and therefore we recommend contacting us with any mobility questions; we will be happy to advise if the itinerary will be appropriate for you or propose modifications where necessary. Please feel free to contact us.

Julija's knowledge of the area was remarkable! I think she was the best and most knowledgeable guide we have ever had. She knows the older history of croatia, Montenegro, and the Balkans, as well as the details of the war in the 1990's. She took time to explain details of the important political events and the complex interplay of events in the history of the area. She brought points of interest to our attention that we never would have appreciated without her guidance. It really made the history of the area come alive. She is tremendous and we very highly recommend her!!
Filip was a wonderful guide full of knowledge, energy and so much fun. My wife and I had a great time.
She is very informative and fun. We truly enjoyed our day with her.
