Audio Guide Description
Dive into the history of Venice on this self-paced audio guide tour of Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) and its surroundings with Context Travel expert Dr. Susan Steer, an art historian who specializes in Medieval and Renaissance Venice.

Our self-paced starts at St. Mark's Square, Venice's most famous piazza and one of several historically significant landmarks you'll visit on this tour. As you stroll across ancient bridges and wander down winding streets, you'll gain an understanding of the important role the City of Canals played in merging the Eastern and Western worlds during the Medieval and Renaissance eras. Along the way, Dr. Susan Steer will share the stories to bring the city's history and urban culture to life, as well as some of the men and women who transformed it. You'll also discover architectural gems like Teatro La Fenice, the center of Venetian culture, and the hidden oasis known as the Giardini Reali, or Royal Gardens, where our audio tour ends.

On this Venice audio tour, you'll:
  • Uncover Venice's rise as a merchant powerhouse
  • Marvel at St. Mark's Square's architectural wonders – including the Clock Tower, Marciana Library, State Mint, and more
  • Discover 12 centuries of Venetian history
  • Take in the majestic exterior of Doge's Palace, the seat of government and the centre of the justice system
  • Visit the Royal Gardens, a much-needed green haven away from the bustle of the crowds
  • Develop a deeper appreciation for Byzantine Art and its influence on Venice
  • Visit the location that invented the Bellini cocktail and unravel its connection to Ernest Hemingway
By the end of this one-hour Venice audio tour, you'll have gained a profound appreciation for The Floating City's remarkable history and its enduring allure. Join us as we unlock the captivating tales that have shaped this extraordinary city.

Please be aware that the tide levels in Venice are unpredictable. We ask that you take particular caution if the tide is high, as some areas of the tour may be difficult to access. If you'd like to check the tide, please consult the app “Hi!Tide Venice."

Very nice
My fiancé and I did this audio guide together on our first day in Venice. It was so much fun to do it together! We started the audio guide at the same time and the GPS autoplay took over from there. It was so much fun to catch him discovering the same things as me out of the corner of my eye, while existing in our own little bubbles. Susan was a fantastic narrator to our walk and took us around St. Mark's Square, down narrow streets and over picture-perfect bridges. She also recommended a few other stops we should make after our tour, and of course, we took her up on it. All in all, it was a magical day!
Just ok. Thin on information about the structures and history of the square.
